Mardi Gras Parade, New Orleans, LA
French term meaning “Fat Tuesday” and also known as Shrove Tuesday. The earliest known
celebration in Louisiana was held by French settlers in 1699. The season of parades,  masquerade balls, and king cake parties begins on Twelfth Night (Jan. 6) and culminates the day before Ash Wednesday. Traditional colors are: purple (justice), green (faith), and gold (power).
